Curaçao: Colorful Architecture, Turquoise Water & Giant Sea Turtles 🐢💦

Amazing architecture 😍 Giant sea turtles 🐢 and an incredible, rare shade of turquoise-blue water 💦

Pietermaai Oasis

A cute boutique hotel located on a lively street filled with restaurants, bars, and places to go out. The neighborhood is full of colorful, beautiful architecture, and the location is excellent! It’s about a 10-minute drive from the airport.

Punda

A charming area by the sea, filled with colorful buildings and beautiful architecture.

Right next to the street is the Queen Emma Bridge, a floating pedestrian bridge connecting the two sides of Willemstad. While we were on the bridge, a boat needed to pass through. A special alarm went off, and suddenly the entire bridge started moving! It was so surprising to see the whole bridge move just to let a small boat pass. Such an interesting experience!

Pietermaai

A colorful, beautiful, and charming neighborhood with plenty of restaurants, boutique hotels, and places to go out. There are also restaurants right by the beach. This is the neighborhood where we stayed.

Otrobanda

Another colorful neighborhood, full of beautiful architecture, murals, shops, hotels, and a great atmosphere.

Playa Piskado 🐢

A beach with an incredible, bright turquoise-blue sea 💦 Giant sea turtles spend time in the water right next to the swimmers! 🐢

The water is so clear that you can easily see the turtles even while standing on the bridge above the water. Seeing these huge turtles up close was such an amazing experience.

The beach itself is rocky, so there isn’t any soft sand to relax on. There’s a place nearby where you can buy drinks and food.

Water Bike Tour 🚲💦

We also did a water bike tour. The experience of riding the bikes on the water was really fun, and the water was absolutely stunning. However, the guide was disappointing.

He spent almost the entire tour focused on one girl he was flirting with and barely interacted with the rest of us. The tour was supposed to include photos, but he hardly took any pictures of us. He was constantly around the same girl.

By the end, I was already annoyed and insisted that he take pictures of us too. Luckily I did, because afterward I discovered that he hadn’t taken any photos of me by myself, and the few photos he did take were mostly when I was moving.

Overall, the guide was disappointing and unprofessional, and in my opinion, the tour was not worth the high price.

Restaurants 🍽️

La Reina

A beautifully designed restaurant by the sea, with delicious food 🤤😍

The lemon tree

It’s a great place to enjoy a meal right by the water. I had a vegetarian burger, and it was really tasty! 😋

Getting Around 🚕

Taxis in Curaçao are expensive. There is no Uber, but there is a local taxi app. I tried ordering a taxi through the app, but it took a very long time, so I eventually gave up.

There is also affordable public transportation. The main bus station is located in Otrobanda, within walking distance of the hotel where we stayed. You can walk there through the colorful streets and across the floating bridge.

We took the bus to Playa Piskado, where the sea turtles are, on the other side of the island. The journey took about an hour, and buses run approximately every two hours.

Final Thoughts 💙

What impressed me most about Curaçao was the colorful and charming architecture, the incredible turquoise-blue color of the sea 💦, and of course, the huge sea turtles! 🐢😍
