Zambia – Livingstone, the Zambezi River & the Incredible Victoria Falls 🌈💦🥰

We flew to Zambia from Johannesburg and spent several unforgettable days in Livingstone, home to the mighty Victoria Falls and the beautiful Zambezi River.

This was one of the most exciting and unique parts of our Africa trip, filled with unforgettable experiences and breathtaking scenery.

Visa

You can obtain a visa upon arrival at the airport (or apply online in advance).

I highly recommend bringing cash, as the credit card system wasn’t working when we arrived due to communication issues.

If you’re planning to visit both Zimbabwe and Botswana during your stay, make sure to request the KAZA UniVisa, which allows entry to all three countries and costs $50.

Transportation from the Airport

Taxis are available outside the airport.

Don’t hesitate to negotiate the price—it will usually be much cheaper than arranging transportation through your hotel.

The drive to the main hotel area takes around 15 minutes.

Where We Stayed

Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, Livingstone Resort

An excellent hotel located directly on the banks of the Zambezi River.

The property is beautifully designed, the service was excellent, and everything about our stay was perfect. 👌🏻

As always, it’s worth comparing prices in an incognito Google search, as sometimes better rates appear there.

Experiences & Attractions

Microlight Flight Over Victoria Falls 🤩🤩🤩

Without a doubt, one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had.

We flew in a microlight aircraft over the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls, and it was absolutely breathtaking. 😍

I booked the 15-minute flight.

Because I was the first flight of the morning, it happened to be my birthday, the pilot surprised me with an extra 10 minutes in the air. 😁

During the flight, the pilot explained the geography and history of the area.

On the return journey, we flew above the river and nearby safari areas, where we could spot wildlife from the air.

It was absolutely perfect. 👌🏻

The company operating the flights is Batoka Sky.

They also offer helicopter tours.

Angel’s Pool / Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls 💦

This was one of the most thrilling experiences of the entire trip. 🤩🤩🤩

After arriving at the meeting point and receiving a safety briefing, we boarded a boat and traveled to the falls area.

Rain jackets were provided before beginning a guided walking tour.

At several points, we stood literally above the waterfall for photos.

Then came the highlight:

Entering the famous natural infinity pool right at the edge of Victoria Falls.

There is a safety rope inside the pool, and experienced guides assist everyone while taking photos.

Standing at the edge of one of the world’s largest waterfalls is both terrifying and absolutely incredible. 🔥

Group sizes are limited.

After everyone had their turn in the pool, we enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant on the island before returning by boat.

Depending on the season and water levels, visitors enter either Angel’s Pool or Devil’s Pool.

Everything about this experience was perfect.

The Royal Livingstone Express by Bushtracks 🚂✨

One of the most elegant and memorable evenings of our trip.

The experience combines fine dining with a journey aboard a beautifully restored vintage train.

After pickup from the hotel, we arrived at the station and were welcomed with drinks and plenty of time to take photos before boarding.

The train travels slowly through the countryside toward the Zambia–Zimbabwe border bridge.

At sunset, the train stops overlooking Victoria Falls.

Outside, local performers greet passengers with traditional music and dancing, creating a magical atmosphere.

Meanwhile, a multi-course gourmet dinner is served onboard. 😋🤤

The food was excellent.

Coincidentally, this experience also took place on my birthday, and the staff surprised me by singing a birthday song in their local language.

It was such a special and unforgettable moment. 😍

Final Thoughts

Everything about Livingstone exceeded our expectations. 👌🏻

The experiences were unique, exciting, and unlike anything we’ve done before.

Victoria Falls is truly one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world, and seeing it from the air, from the river, and from the edge itself made this destination unforgettable. 🥰

The local people were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We had countless warm conversations throughout our stay.

Zambia gave us some of the most memorable experiences of our entire Africa trip.
