One Week in Berlin 🇩🇪✨

Berlin is a city of contrasts.

It’s a place where history and modern creativity exist side by side. One moment you’re standing at a powerful Holocaust memorial, and the next you’re exploring street art, innovative architecture, vibrant cafés, and some of the city’s coolest neighborhoods.

We spent a fascinating week in Berlin and absolutely loved the combination of history, culture, design, and great food.

Where We Stayed

We split our stay between two different areas of the city.

nhow Berlin

One of the coolest hotels I’ve stayed in.

The hotel is built around a music theme and features a unique design by renowned designer Karim Rashid.

Located directly on the river, it’s close to the famous East Side Gallery, making it a great base for exploring this part of Berlin.

The colorful interiors and creative atmosphere make it a memorable place to stay.

Mercure Hotel Berlin Wittenbergplatz

A stylish boutique hotel with beautiful décor and an excellent location.

Situated at Wittenbergplatz, it’s within walking distance of Berlin’s main shopping district and the famous KaDeWe department store.

Perfect for anyone who wants to combine sightseeing with shopping and dining.

Things to See & Do

Friedrichstadt-Palast 🎭

One of the highlights of our trip.

The show was absolutely spectacular!

A combination of live music, acrobatics, choreography, special effects, and impressive stage design.

The theater presents a new production every season, and the one we saw was fantastic.

DARK MATTER Berlin ✨

An immersive exhibition featuring light, sound, and interactive installations.

Each room offers a completely different experience, and the creativity behind the exhibits is impressive.

A truly unique and unforgettable attraction.

Teledisko 💃🕺

One of the most fun and unusual experiences in Berlin.

Old telephone booths transformed into tiny private nightclubs.

You pay a small fee, choose a song, step inside, and dance while colorful lights, a disco ball, and a camera record your performance.

It’s hilarious and surprisingly fun. 😁

We tried it at Holzmarkt 25, although there are several Teledisko booths around the city.

Ritter Sport Chocolate World 🍫

The flagship store of the famous German chocolate brand.

If you love chocolate, this place is dangerous. 🤤🤤🤤

Plenty of flavors, gifts, and delicious treats to try.

Urban Nation Museum

A fascinating museum dedicated to modern urban art, street art, and graffiti.

Berlin is famous for its street art culture, and this museum offers a great introduction to the scene.

East Side Gallery

One of Berlin’s must-see attractions.

This preserved section of the former Berlin Wall has been transformed into an open-air gallery featuring more than 100 murals created by artists from around the world.

It’s both historically significant and visually impressive.

Holzmarkt 25

One of Berlin’s coolest riverside spaces.

The area combines restaurants, bars, creative studios, shops, and outdoor seating areas built with sustainability in mind.

Many structures and decorations are created from recycled materials, giving the place a unique and eco-friendly atmosphere.

A great spot to relax and enjoy the riverfront.

Markthalle Neun 😋

A vibrant indoor food market filled with local vendors and international cuisine.

Perfect for sampling a variety of foods while soaking up Berlin’s casual atmosphere.

Everything looked—and tasted—amazing.

History & Holocaust Memorial Sites

Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

One of Berlin’s most powerful and moving sites.

Walking through the enormous field of concrete slabs creates a unique emotional experience.

The memorial is vast and impossible to ignore.

Beneath it is an excellent underground museum dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, and admission is free.

Otto Weidt Museum (Museum Blindenwerkstatt)

A small but deeply meaningful museum located in the original workshop of Otto Weidt.

During World War II, Weidt protected blind, deaf, and disabled Jewish workers from Nazi persecution.

His story is inspiring and deserves to be better known.

Hackesche Höfe

A beautiful complex of interconnected courtyards filled with restaurants, shops, galleries, and unique architecture.

The area also contains street art and historical sites, including the Otto Weidt Museum.

One of Berlin’s most charming neighborhoods.

DDR Museum

An interactive museum exploring life in East Germany before reunification.

The exhibits cover everyday life, politics, culture, and the realities of living behind the Iron Curtain.

Engaging, informative, and surprisingly fun.

Cafés, Restaurants & Food Recommendations 😋

Café am Neuen See

Located in the heart of Tiergarten Park.

A beautiful lakeside café and restaurant surrounded by nature.

We stopped for drinks, but many visitors come for meals as well.

The peaceful setting makes it a perfect break from city sightseeing.

House of Small Wonder

One of Berlin’s most beautiful cafés.

Filled with greenery, natural light, and a charming courtyard.

The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is delicious.

A Never Ever Ending Love Story

A cozy café serving excellent desserts.

I ordered pancakes, and they were absolutely delicious. 😋

Distrikt Coffee

One of Berlin’s most popular brunch spots.

Excellent coffee and a fantastic breakfast menu.

Highly recommended.

Burgermeister 🍔

A famous Berlin burger chain.

They offer vegetarian options as well, and everything we tried was delicious. 🤤

A classic Berlin food stop.

KaDeWe & Die Sechste

The famous KaDeWe department store is worth visiting even if you’re not shopping.

Its food floor features gourmet restaurants, bakeries, and dessert counters.

We stopped for desserts, and everything was beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. 🤤

Zeit für Brot

A well-known bakery famous for its pastries and cinnamon rolls.

Perfect for breakfast or an afternoon coffee break.

KIM999 Vegan

A fantastic vegan Asian restaurant.

We had sushi, and it was honestly some of the best vegan sushi I’ve ever tasted. 🤤🤤🤤

Monkey Bar 🐒

One of Berlin’s most popular rooftop-style bars.

The design is stylish, the atmosphere is lively, and the large windows overlook Berlin Zoo.

Great cocktails, good food, and excellent views.

A perfect evening spot. 👌🏻

Getting Around

We used Berlin’s excellent subway and public transportation system throughout the trip.

It’s easy to navigate, efficient, and connects all major attractions.

Internet

We used an eSIM during our stay.

I recommend checking travel eSIM providers before your trip and comparing available packages.

Final Thoughts

Berlin surprised me in the best possible way.

It’s a city where history feels present everywhere, from reminders of World War II and the Holocaust to the legacy of the Berlin Wall and East Germany.

At the same time, Berlin is creative, modern, artistic, and full of energy.

The combination of powerful historical sites, fascinating museums, incredible street art, unique design, and great food makes it one of Europe’s most interesting cities.

It was a week filled with learning, reflection, great experiences, and excellent food.

A city I would happily visit again.
