Day Trip from Livingstone, Zambia to Botswana – Chobe Safari 🦁🐘🦒

One of the highlights of our stay in Livingstone was a day trip to Chobe National Park in Botswana.

I booked the excursion through GetYourGuide, and it turned out to be an excellent experience. 👌🏻

Early Morning Departure

The day started with an early pickup from our hotel in Livingstone, Zambia.

Our driver was friendly, helpful, and explained the border-crossing process along the way.

When we arrived at the border, he assisted us with the immigration procedures, making everything very easy and stress-free.

After clearing passport control, we continued into Botswana and transferred to an open safari vehicle.

Chobe National Park Safari 🐘

Our safari guide was fantastic.

From the moment we entered the park, wildlife sightings were everywhere.

During the game drive, we saw:

‏Elephants 🐘
‏Giraffes 🦒
‏Antelope
‏Various bird species 🦅
‏And even a leopard! 🐆

The atmosphere was amazing, and the landscapes of Chobe National Park were beautiful.

Safari Tea Break

Midway through the game drive, we stopped for a short “bush picnic” with tea, coffee, and cookies.

It was a nice opportunity to stretch our legs and enjoy the surroundings.

Lunch

At the end of the safari drive, we stopped for lunch at a local restaurant.

The buffet lunch was included in the tour price.

There was a good selection of dishes, and it was a great way to relax before the afternoon activity.

Chobe River Cruise 🚤

After lunch, we boarded a specialized safari boat for a cruise along the famous Chobe River.

This was a completely different experience from the game drive and allowed us to get surprisingly close to wildlife.

During the cruise, we saw:

Crocodiles 🐊
Elephants drinking at the riverbanks 🐘
Buffalo 🐃
Rhinos
Numerous bird species 🐦

Seeing the animals from the water offered a unique perspective and made for some fantastic photo opportunities.

Return to Zambia

After the river cruise, we were transported back to the border.

Once we completed immigration procedures, the same driver who had picked us up in the morning was waiting to take us back to our hotel in Livingstone.

Everything was very well organized and ran smoothly throughout the day.

Final Thoughts

This was a fantastic safari experience and one of the easiest ways to visit Botswana while staying in Zambia.

The combination of a game drive in Chobe National Park and a river safari on the Chobe River made for a varied and unforgettable day.

We saw an incredible amount of wildlife, had excellent guides, and everything was well organized from start to finish.

If you’re visiting Livingstone, I highly recommend adding a Chobe safari day trip to your itinerary. 🤩

It was an amazing and memorable experience!
